چکیده

Background The current American Society of Anesthesiologists fasting guideline for formula-fed infants in the periprocedural setting is 6 h. Prolonged very young associated with an increased risk hypoglycemia and dehydration as well patient discomfort patient/parental dissatisfaction. This study aimed to determine time gastric emptying healthy neonates after formula feeding by serially evaluating antrum ultrasound. authors hypothesized that times are significantly shorter than h recommendation. Methods After institutional review board approval written informed parental consent, ultrasound examination was performed full-term before at 15-min intervals until return baseline. Ultrasound images were measured obtain cross-sectional areas, which then used estimate antral volumes. Results Forty-six 48 recruited included final analysis. Gastric ranged from 45 150 min averaged 92.9 (95% CI, 80.2 105.7 min; 99% 76.0 109.8 min) overall group. No significant differences found between male female (male: mean, 93.3 [95% 82.4 104.2 min]; female: 92.6 82.0 103.2 P = 0.930) or those delivered vaginal versus cesarean routes (vaginal: 93.9 81.7 106.1 cesarean: 92.2 82.5 101.9 0.819). Conclusions These results demonstrate substantially less formula-fed, term neonates. Editor’s Perspective What We Already Know about Topic Article Tells Us That Is New

Scintigraphic evaluation of gastric emptying after greater curvature plication in comparison with sleeve gastrectomy

Introduction: Laparoscopic gastric plication (LGP) is a relatively new restrictive bariatric procedure that emerged to avoid the problems and to reduce the cost of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. In this study we present the initial short-term outcome of LGP and its effect on gastric emptying and compare it with the results of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG). <stro...

Abdominal Ultrasound for the Evaluation of Gastric Emptying Revisited.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS Disorders of gastrointestinal transit and motility are frequently found in the general population, impacting the quality of life and increasing the costs of health care services. Ultrasonographic assessment of gastric emptying is a method introduced in the early 1980s for the evaluation of dyspepsia. The aim of this paper was to assess the current role of abdominal ultrasoun...

Measurement of gastric emptying by real-time ultrasound.

A safe non-invasive technique for the measurement of gastric volume by real-time ultrasound is described. The application of this technique to the measurement of the emptying of liquid from the stomach is outlined. Gastric emptying of liquid was found to be log-linear, the mean half-life of emptying in 10 volunteers being 22 . 0 +/- 2 . 5 min. Ultrasound measurement of gastric emptying provides...

Gastric emptying of water in term pregnancy.

BACKGROUND Healthy nonpregnant patients may ingest clear liquids until 2 h before induction of anesthesia without adversely affecting gastric volume. The purpose of this study was to compare gastric emptying in term, nonlaboring pregnant women after ingestion of 50 ml water (control) with that after ingestion of 300 ml water. METHODS Gastric emptying was assessed in healthy, nonobese, term pr...

Breast-feeding and formula feeding in healthy term infants and bone health at age 10 years.

Few studies have investigated the effects of infant nutrition on later bone health in term infants, although low sn-2 palmitate in infant formulas has been shown to result in the formation of stool fatty acid soaps, reduced Ca absorption and lower bone mass in the short term. To investigate the effect of (1) breast-feeding (BF) and (2) the type of infant formula (standard fat blend v. high-sn-2...
